Greg Schiano should be next football coach fired

I was glad to see classless Lane Kiffin get fired by USC. Now I’d like to see Tampa Bay give the heave ho to Greg Schiano.

Schiano destroyed what was left of Josh Freeman. And this past Sunday, Mike Glennon destroyed Schiano and anyone who bet on the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay had the punchless Cardinals firmly under control leading 10-0 at home in the fourth quarter. Carson Palmer wasn’t doing anything lacking adequate pass protection and any semblance of a ground game. All the Bucs had to do was keep the ball on the ground and not commit any turnovers.

Glennon couldn’t do it. He set up a Cardinals field goal with a fumble. Then two series later, he was intercepted at his own 11. From there, the nearly washed-up Palmer could drive the Cardinals in a for a touchdown against the shell-shocked Buccaneers. Then, of course, Glennon threw another interception that allowed the Cardinals to sew up an improbable 13-10 victory.

As bad as Freeman has regressed since two seasons ago, the Bucs would have won that game given their defensive effort and lack of opponent if Freeman would have played instead of Glennon.

But it was more important for Schiano to completely throw Freeman under the bus by deactivating him than it was to turn his team’s season around. Now the Bucs are 0-4 and have a starting quarterback who is a complete stiff, worse than Freeman.

The 0-4 Buccaneers join the Jaguars, Giants and Steelers in NFL purgatory. There’s a difference between the other 0-4 teams than Tampa Bay, though.

Tom Coughlin and Mike Tomlin are excellent coaches. Declining talent and multiple injuries have done in their teams. Gus Bradley, Jacksonville’s coach, gets a pass this year because he’s a rookie.

Schiano made his classless presence known last year becoming the first – and only head coach – to order his players to smash the winning team’s helpless players as they were kneeling down running out the clock instead of trying to run up a score.

Tampa Bay ownership should do their team – and league – a favor and can Schiano immediately before he causes more damage.
