Nover’s View: Maryland-Nebraska Free Play

Nebraska plus 5 hosting Maryland

Laying points with Maryland on the road in the Big Ten is dangerous to your health and bankroll. The Terrapins have lost six of their seven away Big Ten matchups. Their lone road win came against Minnesota, which is 1-13 in conference and is the only non-competitive team in the league. Maryland is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games versus opponents with a winning home mark.

Oh, yes, Maryland also is in a major letdown spot.

The Terrapins are off a 68-54 home win against third-ranked Purdue this past Thursday. It was Maryland’s first victory against a Top 5 team in seven years.

The key question is are the Cornhuskers capable of staying within this number if not outright upsetting the Terrapins?

Evidence says they are. Nebraska has quality home conference victories beating Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State. The Cornhuskers are playing well, too, with three victories in their last four games, including upsetting Rutgers on the road during their last game five days ago.

Matchup-wise, Nebraska has a tall front line to combat Maryland. The Terrapins need inside scoring because they rank 336th in 3-point shooting. One of Maryland’s strengths is forcing turnovers. The Cornhuskers, though, are among the best in the conference in turnover percentage.

Nebraska has picked up its scoring, too, thanks to Keisei Tominaga, who is averaging 24.5 points during his last four games.
