Nover’s View: Ducks-Coyotes Free Thursday Play

On January 28, 2021, in Free Picks, NHL, by Stephen

Ducks at Coyotes Under 5 1/2 minus $1.35

The total already is getting down to 5, but right now many books are showing 5 1/2 with heavy juice on the Under. It’s hard to fathom how there could be more than five goals scored in this matchup.

The Ducks are averaging a puny 1.8 goals a game. They are last in the NHL in scoring, shots on goal and power play goals. Every team except the Ducks have scored a power play goal. Anaheim is 0-for-16 when it has had a man advantage.

Each of the Ducks’ last six games have gone Under. Anaheim is facing a hot goalie, too. Arizona’s Darcy Kuemper has allowed only four goals in his last three games stopping 82 shots during this span with two of these games coming against Las Vegas, a top-10 scoring team.

Arizona is in a scoring slump. The Coyotes have been shut out in each of their last two games. They haven’t scored more than two goals in four of their last five games.

Arizona also is facing a hot goalie, John Gibson. He hasn’t surrendered more than two goals during regulation in each of the last five games. Gibson’s .948 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average rank No. 1 among goalies with at least five appearances.
