SMU at South Florida Over 58 1/2

SMU has gone over the total in five of its six games. It’s not a surprise since the Mustangs average 30.8 points and 423.8 yards a game while surrendering 45.2 points and 570.7 yards. Only two FBS teams allow more yards per game.

South Florida’s offense has picked up. The Bulls are averaging 36.5 points in their last two games going against Syracuse and Connecticut.

The Bulls have one of the country’s better running backs in Marion Mack, who ranks 16th averaging 114.8 yards rushing a game. Only two American Athletic College Conference teams average more yards on the ground than South Florida.

SMU ranks 125th out of 127 FBS teams in run defense. The Mustangs only have eight sacks, too. So the Bulls should have their way especially given the rapid improvement of their sophomore quarterback Quinton Flowers.

But the Mustangs can score under innovative first-year coach Chad Morris, the former Clemson offensive coordinator, who could have even more tricks in his bag with SMU having a bye last week.
