Air Force plus 10 hosting San Diego State

This is a bit of a Mountain West Conference sandwich for San Diego State. The Aztecs are feeling fat and happy after an impressive, 81-67, home victory against conference leader and then 17th-ranked Utah State this past Saturday. The Aztecs face a tough road game against Nevada on Friday.

But first San Diego State has to play Air Force, who is tied for last in the Mountain West with San Jose State at 1-8. Air Force is an easy opponent for San Diego State to look past. That would be a mistake.

Air Force is 3-1 ATS as a double-digit ‘dog this season. The Falcons can rise up. They proved that when they upset UNLV as a 10 1/2-point road ‘dog with a 32-point victory on Jan. 23.

The Falcons hold a big advantage in 3-point shooting accuracy. They rank 28th in the nation in that category making 37.4 percent of their shots from beyond the arc. San Diego State, by contrast, ranks 258th in 3-point shooting hitting only 32.4 percent. The Falcons’ 3-point shooting can keep them within single digits.

The Aztecs also have not been good in this role. They are 1-5 ATS the last six times they’ve been double-digit favorites this season.
