Mystics minus 6 1/2 at Mercury
Phoenix is an auto-fade. The Mercury have missed the playoffs for the first time in the last 10 seasons, are 0-8 SU, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games and have multiple injuries. Phoenix has two games left. The Mercury are counting the days to when their misery will be over.
Among those out for Phoenix are Diana Taurasi and Sophie Cunningham. Those are the Mercury’s second and third-leading scorers. The Mercury lose a lot of on-court fire without the fiery Taurasi.
The Mercury are averaging just 70.7 points during their last eight games. They are last in the league in scoring averaging 76.4 points on the season. Phoenix also has the worst point spread mark in the WNBA at 14-23 (38 percent).
Washington is in must-win mode trying to hold off Los Angeles for a playoff spot following road losses to Las Vegas this past Thursday and to the Sparks this past Sunday.
Injuries have derailed the Mystics’ season. They won’t have a couple of key players, center Shakira Austin and guard Ariel Atkins. But their superstar, Elena Delle Donne, is back from injury. She can lead them to a point spread cover here against the disinterested Mercury.
Also frontcourt rotation player Queen Egbo should play after being out. That’s important with Austin out and a need to defend Phoenix’s star center Brittney Griner.
