Nover’s View: Browns-Chiefs Free Sunday Play

It’s more than just sheer talent why the Chiefs are 14-0 in their past 14 September games. Andy Reid unleashes his full bag of tricks catching opponents off-guard.

This certainly sounds good for the Over, right? Not this time. Instead I see Reid fooling foes and general perception by placing a heavy emphasis on running, which keeps the clock constantly moving.

The Browns place a major emphasis on running, too. Cleveland should also have a much improved defense.

But back to Kansas City. The Chiefs have completely revamped their offensive line following their Super Bowl embarrassment. It’s anticipated the Chiefs will be starting rookie offensive linemen at center, right guard and right tackle. The strength of their offensive line is the left side, which is manned by veterans Orlando Brown Jr. and Joe Thuney. Brown and Thuney are more adept at run-blocking.

Reid doesn’t figure to risk franchise QB Patrick Mahomes throwing a lot in this opener behind such an inexperienced offensive line with all new starters. The Browns have the NFL’s premier pass rusher, Myles Garrett. The Browns’ secondary also is deeper and more experienced. Their linebacker corps is upgraded with the addition of former Colts linebacker Anthony Walker and good-looking rookie Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

If you discount their 38-point performance against the Bills in the AFC title game, the Chiefs are averaging 17.2 points during their last four games.

Cleveland normally plays conservative. That certainly should be the case here as the Browns want to maintain ball control limiting the opportunities Mahomes has.

The Chiefs have their own elite pass rusher, Chris Jones.

I have five premium NFL Sunday plays going in addition to this free selection, including three totals. I am 14-5-1 on my last 20 NFL totals plays. I also have my NFL Chalk Game of the Month today. I have turned in winning weeks during each of the first two college football weeks. If you are interested in my sports service please email me at scriber26@gmail.com, or message me via Twitter.

Best of luck and no bad beats!
