Remembering and Ranking Ali

Some of us lucky ones such as myself are old enough to remember when you could watch heavyweight boxing title matches on regular TV for free. Because of that, I got to see a number of Ali fights.

I can’t say he’s the greatest heavyweight of all-time, but his power, quickness, jab and ability to psych out opponents definitely puts him in the all-time top four with Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson.

Ali was a very polarizing figure in his prime during the 1960s. He was very courageous to oppose the Viet Nam War. That stance cost him a lot, but helped make him a national institution during his later years when he became revered.
