A word to the wise. Careful if you’re going to back the Boston Red Sox and Steven Wright today against the Orioles in Baltimore.
Nothing against Wright. Actually, I like the guy I lot. He has a 2.62 ERA and has turned in quality outings in nine of his 10 starts this season.
Unfortunately, I was on him during his one bad start. That came on May 13 against the Astros at home. Wright surrendered five earned runs in just 4 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and two walks during this short appearance.
It rained during that game, which I directly attribute to Wright’s poor start because he’s a knuckleball pitcher. The conditions made it difficult for Wright to effectively throw his knuckleball.
The forecast for today’s game in Baltimore calls for a chance of rain. It’s also a day game. Wright is 0-3 in day contests.
