Worst NFL Coach

The first NFL coach to be fired prop is a popular topic. The usual suspects get bantered around – Jay Gruden, Mike Pettine and Lovie Smith.

I’m not a fan of any of them. But the worst head coach in the NFL is in Miami: Joe Philbin.

The Dolphins have and had more talent than the Redskins, Browns and Buccaneers. Miami ownership always seems to make big off-season splashes with huge free agent signings.

Yet Philbin never has had a winning record during his four-year tenure with the Dolphins.

Miami is lucky to be 1-2 instead of winless. The Dolphins were dominated statistically by Washington in Week 1. They then lost to the hapless Jaguars and were blown out as a home favorite against the Bills.

Philbin should have been fired two years ago for not being aware of the bullying that went on with his team toward Jonathan Martin.

A trademark with the Dolphins has been losing games they should have won and choking away their playoff chances by losing key division games late in the season.

Some guys aren’t meant to be head coaches. They are better off being assistants. Philbin fits that category. Based on how Miami has underachieved, Philbin should be the first coach fired.
