The New Marv Levy

Usually you can toss out much of what happened during preseason. But there is at least one tidbit worth storing away.

Atlanta coach Mike Smith is the new Marv Levy, the former Bills coach who was famous for not caring about winning preseason games.

Smith hardly played his key performers during preseason going 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS. Smith’s record in preseason the past three seasons is 1-10 SU and 3-9 ATS.

I agree that trying to win a preseason game is not worth risking an injury to a starter. Smith also happens to be the winningest coach in Falcons history. It should be noted, though, that no Super Bowl winner ever went 0-4 in preseason.
