Giants minus $1.16 at Marlins
A few days ago, Miami rookie Ronny Simon was seen in tears during a loss to the Padres. Don’t be to tough on Simon. I would be crying, too, if I were on the Marlins. Miami is enduring another hopeless season. The Marlins have the third-worst record in the National League. They are 10 games below .500.
The Giants are six games above .500. So I find this price cheap to lay with San Francisco, especially given its huge bullpen edge.
I don’t expect the Marlins to do much damage against Giants starter Hayden Birdsong – who has a 2.48 ERA in 32 2/3 innings – and a San Francisco bullpen that sports the lowest ERA in the majors at 2.42. The Marlins have never faced Birdsong, which gives him a surprise element.
Miami starter Ryan Weathers has a tremendous 1.15 ERA – so far. However, the veteran doesn’t have nearly this kind of effective history. Weathers only has made three starts this season spanning 15 2/3 innings. He’s yet to reach the seventh inning in any start. So the Marlins’ bullpen with their weak 4.70 ERA is going to factor.
Bottom line is I find regression coming for Weathers and this price is cheap enough to back the superior Giants.
