Wizards plus 15 at Pistons (South Point)
The Pistons have been an amazing story going 36-29 after enduring their worst season in franchise history last season with a 14-68 record.
The oddsmaker has taken notice. Perhaps too much in this case.
Detroit is favored by its biggest margin of the season here. However, the spot isn’t good for the Pistons and the Wizards, as bad as they are, aren’t getting the proper respect.
The Pistons just got back from a four-game West Coast trip that concluded with a narrow victory against the Trail Blazers this past Sunday. This will be their first home game in 10 days. So focus and concentration could be a problem for Detroit.
Washington’s full body of work shows a 13-50 record. That’s the worst mark in the NBA. Current form-wise, though, the Wizards aren’t that bad. They actually are 4-3 in their last seven games and have covered 63 percent of their games since February going 10-6 ATS.
The Wizards didn’t look good in a 119-104 road loss to the Raptors last night. However, key veterans Khris Middleton and Marcus Smart were rested in that game. The Wizards also played the Raptors in Toronto this past Saturday and won that game, 118-117. So they haven’t had to do much traveling lately. Note, too, the last time Washington played without rest was on Feb. 24. The Wizards defeated the Nets by eight points in that matchup.
Obviously the Pistons are much improved. They are far from elite, however, and should not be laying this many points when it’s doubtful they can produce an “A” game in such a flat spot.
Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff all but admitted this when he said this following the Trail Blazers game, “…We’re still a work in progress. People kind of jump the gun where we are but we’re not a finishing product yet.”
